Laurelhill lads sample life as footballers

Laurelhill Community College’s football teams sampled life as footballers in England recently.

They were off on their annual trip to Wigan, where they played three matches, visited some top football stadia and even got to meet some Premiership stars.

The lads began their games against Hindley United. An Adam Clyde double added to a Dylan Kelly strike to give the Year Nines victory while goals from Craig Elliott and Jamie Bird couldn’t prevent a 3-2 defeat for the Year Eights.

Goals from L.Jameson, C.Elliott, C.Parker and R.Francey then fired the U13s to a 4-2 win over the same opposition in the second round of matches while the U12s lost 3-1 despite a Dean Davis goal.

The boys took off to Liverpool for some inspiration. It was delivered by Kevin Mirallas, who fired the only goal as Everton beat Burnley.

The Laurelhill lads also visited Anfield and got a tour of the Etihad and Old Trafford before visitng Platt Lane, Manchester city’s old training complex where they were given a coaching session by Manchester FA coaches.

Leighton Jameson was named Player of the Tour while Adam Clyde picked up the top scorer award.
