IRISH LEAGUE: Carrick enjoy away victory at Glentoran

GLENTORAN 0 CARRICK RANGERS 1

First Danske Bank Premiership points of the season for Carrick as Glentoran suffered their first home defeat of the season.

Chances in the opening twenty minutes were evenly split with Glentoran’s Curtis Allen twice hitting the target without overly troubling Brian Neeson.

At the other end Brian McCaul might have done better with a free header from Miguel Chines free kick and the Portugese striker saw his lob clear the bar on 17.

Chines opener came after 31 minutes when McCaul won a race with the home defence for a long ball and teed up the veteran striker for the winner.

Eric Foley lashed a shot wide on 41 to send Rangers in a goal to the good at the interval.

The much vaunted Novo fired Kym Nelson’s cross wide on 51 minutes and then on 56 Foley’s free curled wide of Neeson’s left hand post.

Ten minutes later Elliott Morris had to be at his best to direct Nathan Hanley’s effort past the post after a cute knock-down from Chines.

Carrick were defending superbly as the Glens got increasingly anxious and Neeson typified their never say die spirit with a fine stop from Allen with his feet with twelve minutes left.

He distinguished himself again in added time by tipping Morris’ long range free kick over the bar.
