Former Dutch KNVB Grassroots Manager and Ajax Cape Town Football Academy Director Corné Groenendijk was the surprise special guest at the Irish FA and McDonald’s Coaching Master class series recently.

The outdoor session at the Stormont Pavilion Facility saw Corné demonstrate to coaches’ from Hillsborough Boys FC a number of coaching ideas, skills, drills and small sided games appropriate for players between 6 and 12 years old.

Speaking on the McDonald’s Coaching Master class series, Ian Stewart, Irish FA Grassroots Development Manager said: “We are delighted with the support McDonald’s provides to boost grassroots football activity across Northern Ireland, they are clearly committed to raising the standard of the game we all love.

“Over the coming months the Irish FA and McDonald’s Coaching Masterclasses will be open to all Grassroots Coaches who participate in the McDonald’s Small Sided Games Centres.

“We look forward to providing the coaches with the latest information and insights on running fun, valuable and confidence building sessions to our young footballers.”

McDonald’s Sprucefield Franchisee John McCollum added: “The McDonald’s and Irish FA’s Coaching Masterclass is a great example of the support McDonald’s is providing across Northern Ireland to raise the standard of the grassroots game.

“Our local coaches do such a fantastic job at providing young players with the environment they need to flourish both in football and in life.

“Corné was truly inspirational to the Northern Ireland coaches with us today and I am sure they will take all they have leart back to their grassroots football clubs.”

The McDonald’s Coaching Master classes are part of McDonald’s ongoing 13 year Community Partnership with the Irish Football Association.

The programme focuses on supporting accredited clubs to help raise the standards of grassroots football through better safety, better advice, better coaching for better coaches, better kit, better support and better recognition for volunteers.
