Christopher off to LA for Special Olympics

Lisburn based Team Ireland athlete Christopher Kane received a major boost to his preparations for the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles (LA2015) recently, with a special reception hosted by the US Consul General in Belfast.

The special event, which took place at the residence of Consul General, Gregory S. Burton honoured local athletes, coaches and families going to LA2015 this month, as well as thanking the corporate partners and volunteers that have supported Team Ireland through various fundraising efforts.

This is a massive year for Special Olympics Ireland, with 88 athletes –including 12 from Ulster - preparing to travel to Los Angeles to compete as part of Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Summer Games.

Their selection comes after four years of training and competition.

The World Games will take place in L.A. from 25th July until 2nd August 2015.

Special Olympics Ireland needs to raise £360,000 to send the team to the World Games.

Local athlete Christopher, aged 19, will compete in 5-a side football at the Games.
