The East Belfast boys played some good football to get a deserved win over the Division One champions Ballymacash in a keenly contested affair.

In the semi-finals, played on Tuesday, Gareth Johnston scored two of the Ballymacash YM II goals in a 4-1 win over Woodvale YM.

The other semi-final was a closer affair with Bloomfield III gaining a 3-2 win over Ballymacash Rangers III to ruin the hopes of an all-Ballymacash final.

Super sub Faulkner ends Taughmonagh dreams

Ballymacash YM super sub Dexter Faulkner ended Taughmonagh YM’s dreams of a clean sweep in the South Antrim League on Thursday night.

In the Supplementary Cup semi-final, Taughy took a 2-0 lead early on thanks to goals from Curtis Moorhead and Barry Bloomer and they appeared on their way to another step towards the treble.

Even when Chris Edgar pulled a goal back, a surprise appeared unlikely, but then on to the stage stepped Dexter Faulkner. He got the equaliser in normal time and the winner in extra time to send Taughy tumbling out.

In the other semi, Glaston also dished up a surprise when Alan McDonnell long pass found Jim Mullan and he found the back of the net to shock league runners-up, Sandy Row,

It wasn’t over yet as Glaston were reduced to ten men with seven minutes of injury time added on. But, they withstood the pressure to set up the final with Ballymacash tomorrow night at Stanley Park, 7pm.

The curtain comes down on the season when the Gordon Hanna Cup final, featuring Taughmonagh YM and Warren YM is played on Friday, May 28, 7pm, at the Bluebell.
