LISBURN begin their league season with a visit to newly promoted CIYMS on Saturday.
Captain, Trevor McKeown is looking forward to the campaign and his team includes the new professional Gerry Strydom who arrived at Wallace Park last Friday.
The South African all rounder got off to a good start last Saturday at Comber where he scor
ed 52 in the Twenty/20 tournament seeing Lisburn to a good win over North West team Ardmore. They lost their other game against Downpatrick but everyone was pleased to get the season underway.
Tomorrow's match is very important as a win would give Lisburn a good start to their difficult opening series of games. After CIYMS comes Waringstown away on Saturday. May 3 followed by North Down on Bank Holiday Monday.
New professional Gerry Strydom is welcomed to Wallace Park by Ian Ross, chairman, president Michael Bowden and skipper Trevor McKeown.

"With our first three games away from home it is a difficult start," admitted skipper McKeown. "We are also hampered with team selection with players at University and other involved in other sports."
The captain, is however, confident Lisburn will not be one of the teams struggling at the bottom. "I feel our bowling attack is one of best in the league, if our batsman can perform then I feel we will be fine." There was mixed fortunes this week with the news Greg Thompson had been left out of the Ireland team, but that will mean he will be playing more often for Lisburn. "It's disappointing for Greg, I have spoken to him and told him the best way to get back in the Irish team is to take wickets for Lisburn. It is a blow for him, but is a boost for the club having him available."

With a new coach on the scene the emphasis as always will be how he does off the field. "The Lisburn way is always for the coach to work with the kids - if Gerry does it on the field also then it will be a bonus."
Thompson, still at university in Durham, will be available for the first three games while David Graham will be here for the summer. Players missing are Gary Crowe and Ian Whitten but the captain is hoping to have Neil Doak available for a number of fixtures during the season.
A bonus would be some dry weather and hard wickets after the unbelievable rain of last summer; the game starts at Circular Road, Belmont at 1.00pm.

Lisburn Seconds also get their league started with a game against CIYMS Seconds in Wallace Park It starting at 1 o'clock.
