THE magnificent weather last week brought visitors from all parts of Ireland and even some from England to Lisburn for the Annual Open Week.

The time sheet was full for all competitions and competitors enjoyed playing a course in immaculate condition. The climax to the week was the Barbour Cup on Saturday with 236 participants.

John Kelso (17) played steadily for two nines of 39. His score was helped by birdie two's at 6 and 13. He had two moments of anxiety. At the eighth he drove into the trees and when he eventually reached the green he three putted for a seven. At the final hole he was bunkered for the first time in the round. His recovery was rather weak and he three putted from the edge of the green. This was John's best ever round and the first time that he had broken 80. His nett 61 was four strokes ahead of Jonny Grant (8) and Stuart Campbell (6).

Jonny started with a birdie and went two under par when he wedged close to the flag at the fifth. He drove into the trees at seven and eight to concede strokes to par but reached the turn in 36. After a par at 10 he struck a tree at 11 with his second shot, failed to find it and ran up a seven. He recovered with an eagle three at 12 where he left a three wood 12 feet from the flag and finished the back nine in 37. Birdies at 2 and 6 helped Stuart reach the turn in 34. Further birdies at 11 and 13 brought him to four under par. Unfortunately he overshot the 16th green with a wedge, chipped weakly and three putted. At the final hole his three iron overshot the green and he failed to hole from 12 feet to finish on 71.

Matthew McKnight (3), Tom Scott (16), Johnny Coulter and Gilbert McKnight (7) from Rockmount all finished with nett 68's. Matthew came home in 35 to win the best gross for his round of 71. Tom was awarded fourth place on count back. Stephen Shaw and Chris Moulds went round in 72 but Chris came home in 36 to win second gross.

Congratulations to Gregg Ferris who had a hole in one at a Seniors outing in Downpatrick. His good form continued when he won Friday's fourball in company with Marshall McConnell.

At the presentation on Saturday night, the Captain, Ian Sayers presented the prizes, thanked the sponsors and all concerned with the organisation of the week and congratulated the prize winners.
