LISBURN Golf Club will start from scratch to provide their members with a new £2.2m clubhouse.
Details of the ambitious plan were revealed to the Star this week and if all goes according to plan the projected date for completion is 2010.
Originally it had been the plan to refurbish and improve the existing clubhouse, but now a complete new b
uild will commence and once completed the old building will be knocked down.

"It is the biggest project in the history of the club and it certainly has created a new energy around the place," says club captain Joe McCullough. "We have a magnificent course and now we will have a clubhouse to match it. This plan now means we will have the most efficient clubhouse possible and I am delighted the members backed this new approach.
"A special AGM was called towards the end of May at which four options were considered with Development Convenor David Johnston and Treasurer Ernie Taylor illustrating the pros and cons of each. By a large majority, the members voted in favour of building a new smaller energy efficient sustainable building which will be well suited for the needs of the members.
"Changing rooms and locker rooms will be situated on the ground floor. Members' lounges on the first floor will provide good views across the course."
When building has finished, the existing clubhouse will be bulldozed and a new putting green and locker rooms put in its place.
