THE disappointment for local sides in Europe continued last night (Thursday) as Linfield slumped to a heavy 4-0 defeat in Denmark.
David Jeffrey's men saw their hopes of progressing to the second round of the Europa League virtually disappear as Danish Superliga side Randers inflicted a thumping defeat on the Blues'.
Linfield were trailing 1-0 at the break, and conceded shortly after the restart to double the pressure.
The Blues never recovered and although they battled bravely, two late goals for Randers gave the home side a big advantage ahead of their visit to Lurgan next Thursday (July 9).
The Windsor Park side started well but were undone by former Danish international Soren Berg, who opened the scoring in the 36th minute to give the home side the half-time advantage.
Further goals in the second period from Tidiane Sane (47), Marc Nygaard (81) and Kaspar Lorentzen (83) appear to make the second leg at Lurgan's Mourneview Park an apparent irrelevance.
