LISBURN mayor Ronnie Crawford was the special guest of Townlands Boxing Club this week to officially open the new club facilities in Glenavy.
Also attending were local councillors Jeffrey Donaldson, Edwin Poots, Paul Butler, Peter O'Hagan, Ann Marie Logue and Thomas Burns.
The local boxing club was formed six years ago in Crumlin, but when the club was vandalised they could not afford to
repair it and had to link up in 2005 with a Belfast based club.

Now, after years of searching for a suitable venue, they have found a home in St. Clare's Hall after agreeing rent with Glenavy Parish.
It will be a huge boost for young boxing hopefuls in the Crumlin and Glenavy area and they can expect top class coaching from Tommy Quinn whose boxers have won over 80 titles.
"It was a fantastic night," explained club president Owen Gallagher. "We had almost 300 attending including guests, coaches and members. We had over 80 young people register to join the club, infact, we ran out of forms.
"We start off on Monday night with training sessions. Thanks to a lot of hard work our dream has become a reality. Thanks to all the sponsors who also played a big part in getting the club a new home again."
