HIGH FIVE FOR GARVEY LADIES

LISNAGARVEY Ladies scooped five awards at the recent UWHU Awards event held at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club.
The Firsts won Senior 1 and promotion into Premier League, their award was collected by Captain Lisa Anderson and Diane Topley who was the third Highest goalscorer in the Senior Leagues.
The Seconds won the Qualifying cup, defeating Dungannon 1st
XI, and this was collected by Fiona Hamilton and Rose Montgomery. The Vets won both their Section Cup and the League Cup, and collected by Captain Wendy Clarke, Anne McNellis and Sam Spence and finally, Maggie Hunter won the prestigious Winnifred Templeton Award, an award which is presented annually and designed to encourage and recognise achievement by individuals within Ulster Hockey.

Maggie played university hockey with Northern Ireland Universities in the UK. She also played in Scotland, Wales and Ireland for Irish Universities and in Holland, Glasgow and Berlin for British Universities.
Maggie won 28 outdoor Irish caps and 12 indoor caps and was part of the squad that won the triple crown in both indoor and outdoor hockey in 1987. Maggie also played in the World Cup in in Amsterdam in 1986.
Maggie has been a member of Lisnagarvey Hockey Club since 2000 and played for the 1sts XI team up until last year. The experience she brought to the younger players of these teams was invaluable and helped these girls develop into stronger players and progress through the club. This year she has been a valued member of the selection committee and coach.

She umpires for all the teams from the 1sts right down to the 7ths whenever she is available and is always ready with help and advice for any member of the club.
She works full time in Wallace High School and coaches the school hockey team. She is an inspiration for many players within Lisnagarvey Hockey Club and her pleasant nature has allowed her to develop strong bonds with the all of the teams she has been connected with.
