THE hare if off and running again at Ballyskeagh with the newly named Drumbo Park, the refurbised multi-million pound Greyhound Stadium in Lisburn, opening for trials on Tuesday.
The overall development includes a newly designed Stadium complete with licensed restaurant, hot food and snack counter, tote stations and bars on both levels.
Safety on the track has been top priority and £400,000 has been invested in the track
itself which features a brand new imported silica sand racing surface, pvc inside rails with double rails on the bends, a new hare system and the latest pneumatic traps available on the market.
Initially 325 and 525 yard trials will be held but when the track opens to the public in June they will be offering six race distances including 550, 575, 825 and 1025 yards.
John Connor – who was previously assistant racing manager at Ballyskeagh – has been appointed racing manager. He comes from four generations of greyhound enthusiasts and is looking forward to the challenge at the new stadium.
"It's great to finally be opening for trials. The track has been designed with the safety of the dogs in mind and by starting trials the dog owners won't have to travel such a distance to work with their dogs," he said.
Trials will be held Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6.00pm – 9.00pm and Saturday morning from 9.00am to 12.00pm. From May 8th, trials will also be held each Thursday from 6.00pm-9.00pm.
To book trials please call the racing office 02890 610070.
