LISBURN Distillery's Co Antrim Shield tie against Wakehurst tonight looks like getting the thumbs up.
LISBURN Distillery's Co Antrim Shield tie against Wakehurst tonight looks like getting the thumbs up.

Manager Paul Kirk said the pitch was in great condition on Monday despite the heavy rain over weekend.

"Unless things were to take a turn for
the worse I see the match going ahead," said Kirk on Tuesday morning."

Distillery failed to get off and running on Saturday when their match at Ballymena was ruled out. "At 2.30pm it was just about playable so the referee waited and gave it every chance, but the rain got even worse and it was an easy decision to make in the end. The most important factor in these situations is the safety of the players and there is no way we could have taken to the pitch."

The Whites will be looking to make a positive start tonight and see off Wakehurst. The tie starts at 7.30pm at New Grosvenor.

Linfield are also confident Windsor Park will have recovered to allow them to host H&W Welders in their Shield tie.

"On Monday things were looking a lot better," said a club spokesman. "A new drainage system was put in and that has really helped in taking the access water away quickly. Unless Tuesday brings the same downpour as Saturday the match should be okay."
