THIS Saturday (May 3) sees Ulster Cup kart racing action at Nutts Corner Motorsports Centre when the provinces top drivers take on the third round of the tough series.
The meeting though might also have more significance as the club hopes soon to hear from Antrim Council about the long term security of the circuit for the development of the sport.
As an indication of how the racing might go though, the second rou
nd saw some very strong performances by local drivers.

In the Junior Cadets class, Stoneyford's Scott Finlay started off the meeting in great form although it was very clear that Ballinderry's Jamie Grant was very much on the pace in the hunt for top results. In the finals the pair were once again in close contention but this time it was Grant that just had the edge. The result is that both drivers go into this Saturdays round with a great position in the championship.
The Honda Cadet class is also expanding and Dunmurry's Jay and Kyle White continue to be strong opponents after starting the sport last season. In the finals last time out Jaye took a terrific second with Kyle taking fourth. Earlier in the day the places were swopped though so both are keeping themselves in close contention with one another as well with being in the hunt for a top five overall.

The Junior Rotax Max class has come on strong of recent and Lisburn's Kyle Price is putting in some great performances of recent considering that he has just moved into the class. Last time out Kyle took a terrific second in the finals. A win and two seconds in heats however showed that he could even have the potential for bigger things if his steady pace holds up.
Lisburn's William Martin and Matthew Mason also had a close race for fifth last time out with Martin on this occasion just fairing out the better of the two. With a third in one of his heats also to his credit then a strong result on Saturday could see young Martin improve his overall chances considerably.

Local drivers continue to be strong players in the TKM Extreme class and Finaghy drivers in particular will be in very hopeful form on Saturday. Last time out Peter Napier took a terrific second place with a heat win seeing him finish with a very strong set of points. Conor Maginn wasn't far off the pace either in third with Daniel Burgoyne in fourth.
Dromore's Johnny Wilson will also be in hopeful form of a top five after finishing sixth.
The fastest class for the 125cc Rotax Max machines will hopefully see Dromores Andrew McClelland also in strong form. After finishing in the top five in last years NI championships Andrew was again in strong form last time out. A superb fourth in his opening heat along with strong results the rest of the day shows that his 2008 season is also off to a good start.

In the Pro kart class, Ballinderry's Dese Roberts and Lambegs Gary Farmer will also start in very hopeful form after the pair took great top fives last time out.
Moira's Paul Prentice though will not be far of the pace either if his fifth in the finals is anything to go by. Racing on Saturday gets underway at 10am with the first of three action packed heats with the finals just after lunch.
