THE weather put paid to yet another weekend of cricket as both the Civil Service/North game at Stormont and the re-arranged Bangor game in Wallace Park both suffered from heavy rain. The postponements are now beginning to cause some concern as the season is rapidly running out of weekends to complete the fixtures.
Lisburn still have seven matches to play and with the weather forecast to continue unsettled, there may well be a problem looming.
This weekend, Lisburn are scheduled to play Cliftonville in the game unfinished on June 21. Cliftonville, at present,
have no ground to play their matches on and Lisburn have fitted the replayed match in tomorrow. If the weather abates, they should record their seventh win of the season against a struggling Cliftonville side which was heavily defeated in Lisburn's home game on June 14 when professional Gerry Strydom scored his first century in the Park.
Sunday sees Lisburn's best chance of winning a trophy this season when they take part in the finals of the Twenty/20 competition at Shaws Bridge,
Their semi final game is against Senior 2 side Downpatrick and if they are successful in that game they will play the winners of Civil Service/ North and home side Instonians. The Twenty/20 game can bring some very exciting cricket and with three games over the space of the Sunday, there should be plenty of entertainment. The action begins at 10.00am. With the prospect of the Lisburn professional putting on a show worth going to see.
Lisburn Seconds are badly in need of a few wins as they are struggling in Junior 1 with just two victories so far this season. They too have yet another arranged 'double header' against Lurgan on Saturday and North Down on Sunday, both games are away from home. Captain of the Seconds, Ricky Finlay would just like a weather free weekend and a couple of wins to ease the situation.
