Thousands flock to Mayor's parade

Over 10,000 people attended the Inaugural City of Lisburn & Castlereagh Mayor's Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day on Saturday May 14 with a fantastic day's entertainment had by all.

This year’s Parade had the regal theme of ‘Crowns & Coronets’ to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday.

A host of international carnival performers, fairy-tale royalty, musicians and carnival floats combined with local school and community group participants created a lavish pageant. Hundreds of brightly clad school children and community groups proudly displayed their carnival costumes, which they designed themselves, throughout the Parade.

The colourful masqueraders have been busy over the past number of weeks making their carnival costumes through the Island Arts Centre’s Carnival Workshops in association with the award winning ArtsEkta and Streetwise Community Circus.

The majestic display looped its way through the city to Wallace Park where crowds were entertained under glorious blue skies.

Family Fun Day highlights included a variety of live musical performances, fairground attractions, sporting arenas, children’s entertainment, vintage car displays and the ever popular Dog Show.

Following in the theme of the Parade members of the public were greeted by magical Princes & Princesses as the enchanting royal couples meandered through the Park.
