Fifteen-year-old Summer McCormick passed the advanced radio exam earlier this month.

The Moira girl, a pupil at St Patricks Academy, Lisburn, passed her foundation exam at the age of just 12.

A year or so later, a 13-year-old Summer successfully completed her intermediate exam, including a practical test in building circuits.

Of her latest achievement, her proud parents said: “She spent whole weekends and evenings revising for it and her hard work paid off.” Summer’s main radio club is Lisburn-based Lagan Valley Amateur Radio Society.
