Christina O’Brien of Ballycanal Self Catering Accommodation, with the help of her friends Wendy Lavery, Sharon and Patrick McKeown and family, has organised a Fun Day for Cavan O’Neill who lives with a specific kind of Cerebral Palsy known as spastic diplegia which prevents him from walking.

The business woman and mum of three has been working hard behind the scenes to create a day that will allow children from all over Northern Ireland to come together to help raise the remainder of the fundraising target.

So far, Emma and Diarmuid O’Neill, Cavan’s parents, have raised in excess of £70,000 out of an £80,000 target through their campaign, Cavan’s First Steps, but they need more funds to come in so they can book the spinal surgery, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, at St Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri.

Calling on the local community, Christina said: “We have worked hard to secure entertainment; from bouncy castles to pony rides, a quad bike trail, fire engine, vintage Titanic truck, Princess makeovers, amazing stalls, live music and a barbecue and tea and scones for sustenance.

“There will also be loads of fantastic prizes up for grabs through a raffle including Edenmore golf lessons and private swimming sessions from Blue Haven Swim Club, a Tesco Northern Ireland Euro 2016 Hamper and so much more.

“The event is open to everyone and anyone and we will welcome with open arms all families who want to support Cavan’s First Steps.”

Cavan’s mum, Emma commented: “This could very well be one of our final events to take us to our target.

“Thank you never seems enough to show our appreciation to Christina and the team behind this day. We can’t wait to meet everyone.”

The Fun Day will take place from 12-5pm at Ballycanal Self Catering Accommodation, Moira, 5 Station Road (entrance through Station Road beside Moira Train Station), BT67 0NE. Tickets cost £10 for a family of four and are available for pre-booking at www.ballycanalselfcatering.com/localevents.php or families can pay upon entering.
