Minute's silence observed

The April meeting of Maghaberry WI began on a sad note as members observed a minute's silence in memory of Mrs Mary Lewis, a founder member of the branch who passed away recently.

Sympathies were extended to her daughter Irene and daughter-in-law Joy.

Helen Wilson of the Little French Barn, Lisburn, gave a talk on painting techniques, helped by members, who had a go themselves.

The birthday girl was Viola Greer. Jean Skuce won the competition - for three scones - with Dawn Robinson second and Sharon Coulter third. Ballot winners were Pamela Moore, Hilda Malcolmson and Sally Chapman.

President, Shirley Dew, congratulated members on recent awards at the Area AGM, notably Elaine Lappin, who gained her Full Circle by tackling each category alphabetically and won the prize for most ribbons (12) earned in a year. Ann Henning won first place for her lemon drizzle cake and Julie Uprichard got first for her cross-stitch bookmark. Pier Shilliday was awarded for best magazine article and Laura Kinloch gained the Silver Spinning Wheel.
