WI observes silence in memory of member Irene

President, Helen Dunlop, welcomed everyone to the February meeting of Maze Brookfield Women’s Institute, where a minute’s silence was observed in memory of Irene Dillon, who passed away recently.

Irene had been a member of Brookfield WI for more than 50 years.

Guest speaker and local historian Simon Walker gave “a most interesting and informative talk” on the history of Hillsborough and surrounding areas.

A spokesperson said, “We learned about the bell-ringing in Hillsborough Parish Church where Simon is Ringing Master. He also told us about the formation of the Hillsborough Old Guard in 2005 whose aim is to preserve and document the rich history of the area.”

Esther Law proposed the vote of thanks.

Pauline Johnston won the competition, with Connie Walker second and Aileen Dixon third. Heather Wylie, Winnie McKibbin and Lila Hewitt were the ballot winners.
