Footpath call for death-trap road

A spokesperson for the group said it had received scores of complaints from residents about the dangers of the road which also leads to the GAA pitch, St Joseph’s Chapel and the local boxing club,

“Anybody that knows these roads will know how much of a death trap this road is without footpaths,” said the spokesperson for the group.

“Parents are unable to walk their children up to the school as they are taking their lives in their hands.

“This is our chance to make our voices heard. Please sign the petition and ask friends and family to do the same.”

The spokesperson went onto say, “Matters worsen with wintery conditions. This part of the road is a death trap and it is a tragedy waiting to happen.

“In the past the Traffic Management for the Lisburn Area has stated that they carried out a survey of the area and pedestrians.

“They have informed political pepresentatives that results indicate a very low priority rating.

“Glenavy Residents Association feel that this is ridiculous and the safety of children/residents using this road should be at the highest priority rating.”

On Facebook one resident Jonny Rogan said, “The Glen Road needs totally resurfaced and some sort of speed control. The kids take their life in the hands crossing it.”

Conor Quinn posted, “A footpath between Crumlin and Glenavy (is needed). Every weekend large groups of teenagers walk to and from these places. I’ve picked people up at 4am and there is already a number of deaths on this road.”
