Responding to the news that the NI Executive has offered land at the Maze as a potential base for Northern Ireland’s new air ambulance service, Mrs Palmer has called on Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard to “demonstrate common sense government and give the green light to radically improving roads around the former Maze jail site.”

“There is now no excuse for the Stormont Executive and especially the Sinn Fein Minister responsible for roads not to implement a radical plan to upgrade the roads network around the Maze site,” the Ulster Unionist Party’s Infrastructure spokesperson said.

“If the Balmoral Show’s severe traffic jams continue, with roads gridlocked for hours, how are the ambulance staff supposed to get in and out of their base if the surrounding roads are clogged up with traffic? Now is the time for action by the Executive on this contentious issue, not empty rhetoric,” she added.
