The recently completed £460,000 improvement scheme at Hillhall Road is 'a good start to what needs done to improve our roads.'

That is the view of Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn, who said the completion of the project, which involved the upgrade of the carriageway, as well as work to reduce the risk of flooding, move power lines underground and replace street lights, will be welcomed by the thousands of motorists who use the busy route every day.

However, the Alliance Party representative stressed that what Northern Ireland needs is “a fully costed strategic plan for our roads, rather than a piecemeal approach to improvements and repairs.”

“There has been a significant level of house building in the Lisburn area, resulting in an increase in the number of cars on our roads. To fully meet the needs of these motorists, and the many thousands of motorists right across Northern Ireland, the Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard needs to ensure spending is strategically planned to avoid continually carrying out expensive repairs.

“Our road network is a vital component to assist our economic wellbeing, therefore urgent action is required,” Mr Lunn said.
