Road safety projects facing axe due to funding cuts
That was the warning issued this week by the voluntary organisation's long-serving Chairperson, Pat Martin, who revealed that several vital road safety initiatives within the borough could be lost due to a lack of funding.
Speaking to the Times this week, Mrs Martin explained how the Department of the Environment (DOE) is no longer providing funding for local road safety committees, and revealed that the intermediary funding body 'UnLtd' has turned down the group's request for financial assistance for the coming year.

Hide Ad"It looks like it'll be curtains for us come September as we have no funding to do anything. We'll meet then, but unless we can find a new source of funding we'll have to wind up the committee. It seems to us like the DOE are out to close down the voluntary road safety movement," Mrs Martin said.
