Alliance Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn has congratulated a local gymnast who has won double gold medals at the Special Olympics.

Kirsty Devlin, who trains at the SALTO Gymnastics Club in Lisburn, picked up two gold medals and two silver at the games in Los Angeles, competing in the Ribbon and Rope, and Ball and All-Round events, respectively.

The 20-year-old achieved Team Ireland’s first gold medal at the games.

Alliance MLA Mr Lunn said it was a fantastic achievement.

“I want to personally congratulate Kirsty on such an amazing accomplishment,” he stated.

“She is a fantastic role model who will become an inspiration for anyone seeking to follow their dreams.

“Sport is a great tool to unite the whole community and I know everyone across Lagan Valley will join me in congratulating both Kirsty on a magnificent result and SALTO Gymnastics Club on giving her the training required to become world-class.”
