LISBURN City Council’s Building Control Unit has been highly commended for Public Service Excellence at the 2012 APSE Awards, recently held in Glasgow.

APSE promotes excellence in the public sector and is the foremost specialist for Local Authority front line services throughout Great Britain & Northern Ireland and the Council was short listed by a panel of industry experts in recognition of its high quality services to its customers.

Interest and recognition for these awards has continued to grow in the 13 years since they began with over 350 submissions received for the 2012 awards process.

The Building Control Unit was one of five short listed finalists in the category “Best Service Team, Construction & Building Services”. This national nomination follows the team’s “Best Service Team of the Year” award 2012 success in the Northern Ireland Local Government Awards (NILGA) in April.

Alderman James Tinsley, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said, “The Building Control Unit continues to develop its ability to innovate and improve service delivery to its users. This is the second consecutive year that this service has received national recognition and highlights our ongoing commitment to customer service. Congratulations to everyone within Building Control for this achievement.”

The Award Ceremony was attended by over 450 delegates including Government Ministers and senior local government figures who were there to celebrate the very best in public sector service delivery.
