A WELL know member of staff has retired from Lagan Valley Hospital after 38 years.

Colleagues organised a farewell reception for Patrick Hughes (Paddy) and presented him with a gift to mark his retirement as surgical ward manager.

Paddy was born in Hilden in 1948 and he started work as an auxiliary in 1975 and worked mainly on the surgical wards and was loved and respected by patients and colleagues alike.

A colleague said: “He always felt privileged to care for patients especially the elderly who he called his heroes and was fortunate to spend his last years in ESU under ward manager Kieran Quinn. He felt Lagan Valley in many ways was his life.”

The managers and staff in ESU and Lagan Valley Hospital would like to thank Paddy for his many years service.
