HILLSBOROUGH woman Lyndsey Shields is encouraging Ulster Star readers to take part in Marie Curie Cancer Care’s annual Scrabo Tower Abseil on Saturday March 23.

Lyndsey and her sister Kathryn took part last year in memory of their granny and Scrabo tower itself meant a lot to the family due to the fact that their grandparents had farmed just below it.

“This was a great opportunity,” said Lyndsey, “for us to take part and raise some money in memory of our nanny, who died following a short battle with cancer in 2011.

“The whole day was well organised; everyone was so excited and the experience was absolutely fantastic. It was really enjoyable and lots of our family came out to support.

“I would encourage anyone to take part in this really worthwhile activity to raise much-needed funds for Marie Curie’s services here in Northern Ireland and to give yourself a challenge. Once you get down you will want to go again; you won’t regret it.”

This coming March’s event is the sixth annual abseil at the 125ft Scrabo Tower.

It costs £10 to register plus a minimum of £55 in sponsorship.

“If you are over 14 years-old,” a spokesperson said. “Sign up now and help us help others.”
