A GROUP of young people from South Eastern Regional College’s Lisburn Campus have recently completed their twelve week Princes Trust Team Programme giving them the skills and confidence to help them get the job they want.

Lindsey Keating, Princes Trust Team Leader at SERC explained: “The programme gives young unemployed people aged 16-25 the opportunity to train for 12 weeks in personal development helping them to inspire themselves and reach their full potential. It is designed to give them the opportunities to develop confidence, motivation, and communication and life skills by getting them to work as a team and complete projects in the local community to improve their education prospects.

“I am exceptionally proud of every single student for completing the course,” continued Lindsey. “They have all shown determination, perseverance through personal problems and have developed excellent team working skills.”

During the programme, the students learned a wide range of skills to help improve their CV, including participation in a number of community projects. The programme also required each of the participants to complete a two week work placement, to improve their practical skills for work.

South Eastern Regional College’s Lisburn Campus has been running the Princes Trust Team Programme for over three years and has trained hundreds of young unemployed people with key personal development skills to help them secure employment.

One of the participants on the course, Joel NcKeown from Lisburn added: “I am so proud to have completed the programme. It has definitely helped me to build my teamwork and communications skills – I feel so much more confident. I was quite nervous about starting the programme as I didn’t know anyone and it seemed like such a very large step to take, however I need not have worried as the group and team leaders were great.

“I would recommend the programme to anyone - it was 12 weeks well spent. Although I enjoyed all of the elements of the course, my favourite part was the Community project at Castle Gardens. This allowed us the opportunity to bond with the rest of the group and also it made us all feel good to be able to do something beneficial for the Lisburn community.”

The next Princes Trust Team Course begins on January 14 at South Eastern Regional College’s Lisburn Campus. To find out more about this exciting 12 week programme call Team Leader Lindsey Keating on 07557 257 418 or email princestrust@serc.ac.uk.
