Lisburn Mayor presents £1000 to Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust

THE Mayor of Lisburn City Council, Alderman William Leathem, has presented the Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim, Mrs Joan Christie, with a cheque for £1000 in aid of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust.

Over £800 was raised at the Council and Church-organised Diamond Jubilee thanksgiving service, which was held on Sunday June 24 at Magheragall Parish Church. The Mayor made the total amount up to £1,000.

The cheque was presented to the Lord Lieutenant in the presence of elected members and the Mayor’s Chaplain, the Reverend Dark, who is the Minister of Magheragall Parish Church.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust was created in 2011 and can receive donations from individuals, groups, organisations and companies, both inside and outside the Commonwealth.

The Mayor said: “The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust has been established to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s unparalleled 60-year contribution to the Commonwealth and her life of dedicated public service. It will provide a lasting legacy to the Queen.

“The work of the Trust is far-reaching. It aims to help young people from developing countries; is part of the global movement to educate and address avoidable blindness in countries where eye care is inadequate and the Trust will be looking at the rising problem of diabetes and its rise across the Commonwealth.”

“We are pleased to be able to provide this money towards the important work of the Trust and it is fitting that in the year of the Diamond Jubilee that the funds raised from our Jubilee church service will go towards the work of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust,” he said.
