Green light given for recycling plant

DESPITE objection from local residents, planning approval has been given for a new materials recovery facility on the Hannahstown Road.

The green light has been given to Eastwood Ltd for a new materials recovery facility at the Envirowaste Newline Landfill on the Hannahstown Road in Ballycolin.

Ten letters of objection were lodged with the Planning Service opposing the application, which includes external processing of construction and demolition waste.

Approval was also given for the provision of an office, car park, weighbridge and wheelwash at the site, as well as the construction and operation of a waste transfer shed for the bulking and recycling of mixed wastes.

Speaking at a recent meeting of Lisburn City Council’s Planning Committee, the Chairman, Alderman James Tinsley, said all of the objections by local residents had been “taken on board.”

He continued: “This is good news for our city, as new jobs will be provided and infrastructure put in place.

“It is good to see firms putting investment in and providing jobs,” he added.

The Senior Planning Officer at the meeting gave assurances that conditions had been attached to the approval following objections from the local community.
