Blaris Fold celebrates

RESIDENTS at Blaris Fold held recently celebrated 30 years of high quality and affordable housing for the over 55’s in Lisburn.
The event was hosted by Jim Morrison, Chairperson of Blaris Residents Association and Tenant Representative on Fold’s Board of Management. Also attending the event was Fold’s Chief Executive John McLean, the Director of Housing Eileen Patterson and the Area Housing Manager Jacqui Gilmore.
Two of the first residents to move into Blaris Fold are still living in the scheme today and one of these residents Mrs Jean Wilson, who moved in along with her husband over 30 years ago was interviewed by Mr Morrison. Mrs Wilson spoke of how, despite initial reservations, that moving into Blaris Fold was the best move they ever made.
Mrs Wilson still enjoys taking part in the social activities within Blaris Fold and along with the other residents she enjoyed the 30 year celebrations which included a buffet supper followed by music and dancing.
The Chief Executive John McLean paid tribute to the work of the Scheme Co-ordinator, Lorna McKnight, who has been providing an excellent service to the residents for 13 years.
He commented: “Blaris Fold has become an integral part of the community in Lisburn and the residents can be very proud of the positive contribution they make to the community. I am aware that the residents are continually raising money for various local charities and over the past few years have raised over £3,700 for various good causes. Blaris Fold is a great example of how this type of housing can be provide a safe and secure home for those aged over 55.”
