Lisburn woman Christine Brown dusted off her trainers to support children and young people’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
The 33 year-old, of Lisburn, is took part in the Belfast Titanic Half Marathon on Sunday 12 July.
She has already raised over £600 for CLIC Sargent, which supports children and young people whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer.
Speaking before the event Christine said: “I’m really excited to be taking part in the Belfast Titanic Half Marathon and looking forward to feeling the buzz of being in Belfast but mostly running with my family there to support me. I have a feeling it’s going to be very emotional.”
“I am running for CLIC Sargent because last year my little cousin Cariss was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Neuroblastoma which affects children under 5 years of age. Since October 2014, she has undergone aggressive chemo, along with other treatment, and at the moment she is recovering from surgery. Her sister Korin, with help from other family members, has been organising fundraising events since Cariss was diagnosed and I’m showing my support by running the Belfast Titanic half marathon on 12 July. Cariss is a remarkable little girl who is fighting this horrible disease with such fortitude and bravery.
“She always has her famous smile and truly is a very special girl to her mum and dad, Elaine and Noel, her sister Korin and the extended family. We all have drawn so much encouragement and strength from her and when I spoke to Elaine she said “together we feel that we will help her beat this disease.”
Jennifer Keegan, CLIC Sargent Running Events Manager, said: “We’re delighted Christine has signed up to take part in the Belfast Titanic Half Marathon.”
“Every day ten children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. CLIC Sargent is there to support children and young people, and their families, by providing practical, emotional and financial support. The funds raised by running events like this will help us continue and expand our work.”
