MACS Supporting Young People launched the opening of a new Drop in

Centre and Floating Support Service in Longstone Street in Lisburn.

Iain Neill MACS Floating Support Project Manager, Lisburn said, “There is a higher than national average incidence of mental ill health and self-harm among young people in Northern Ireland.

“MACS builds positive relationships between young people, their families and communities.

“The Floating Support Service will provide direct support services to help young people aged 16-25, to access housing, education, health, employment and leisure opportunities.

“This service will ultimately increase their confidence and skills so they can lead a full and productive life.”

The Housing Executive’s, Supporting People Department, welcomed the extension of the MACS Floating support service to Lisburn commenting:

“The Housing Executive is delighted to fund this project in Lisburn through our

Supporting People Programme on behalf of the Department for Social Development

(DSD).

“By working in partnership with MACS, and other voluntary organisations, we can help supply the extra help needed by young people to maintain a home. Helping people to live as independently as possible is at the core of the Housing Executive’s work.”

MACS Drop in Centre is located at 60-62a Longstone Street Lisburn, or telephone 02890-313163. It is open to any 16 to 25 year old who needs support or help.
