Dame Mary Peters said: “Music and Sport have so much in common, discipline, talent and dedication.

“The concert is all about young talented children from both a musical and a sporting background and will be an inspiring and uplifting event I am really looking forward to.

“I want to thank Ashley Fulton for donating his time and effort to make this such a success, Thomas Beckett who has been so supportive of the Trust as his chosen charity this year and all the young people taking part.

“Without these key fundraisers we would not be able to support the young athletes who rely on us so heavily.”

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett added: “As Mayor I am delighted to be involved in what promises to be an excellent concert to raise funds for my chosen Mayoral Charity, the Mary Peters Trust.

“May I also commend Ashley Fulton for his genius in compiling this showcase of both musical and sporting talent to provide an evening of entertainment for residents of the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area and further afield. “I would like to see a full house at each show to make the performances special for all the young people who are giving up their time to showcase their talents and raise money for a worthwhile charity,” concluded Councillor Beckett.

The Mary Peters Trust funds young athletes and is raising money to help all sports including helping to send athletes to Rio to compete and hopefully be successful on the world sporting stage.

Go The Distance will be held at the Island Hall, Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn tonight (Friday 12 February) at 7.45pm and Saturday 13 February at 2.30pm and 7.45pm.
