Drumbeg ladies remember Agnes

President of Drumbeg WI Rosalind Bloomfield opened the meeting and led tributes to a much loved member and former President Agnes Donald who died recently.

Agnes transferred from Lambeg Institute when it closed and held a number of positions in Drumbeg including that of President.

Rosalind then welcomed Executive Member Ann McCurdy and tellers Alice Burton and Sandra Irvine to the AGM.

Ann Simpson gave the annual report which reflected on interesting speakers, cultural outings, craft and art achievements and visits to other Institues.

Olive and Rodney Palmer’s 60th wedding anniversary the 90th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth, the arrival of grand and great children were highlighted while members and friends were also supported through times of sadness .

Doris Campbell presented the financial report, highlighting the Women walk the World fundraiser and support for the President’ s Charity Air Ambulance for Northern Ireland.

Ann McCurdy conducted the formal part of the meeting voting took place and a new committee was formed.

New President Sheelagh McRandal was presented with the President’s chain of office with Barbara Huss, Audrey Jackson, Anne McAdam, Eva Orr, Rosemary Reid, Ann Simpson, Ann Thompson, Maureen Toner and Helen Wilson having various positions on committee.

Barbara Huss won the Caroline McBride Cup for the monthly competition with Jane Steele taking second place and Eva McAdam and Olive Palmer being joint third.

A new cup appropriately engraved is being presented by Drumbeg institute to Drumbeg Resident’s Association for the annual village show.

Sheelagh thanked Rosalind for her work over the year and expressed the good wishes of everyone for the year ahead as Rosalind and her husband Brian represent the council as Mayor and Mayoress.
