Little Cameron Tindale died suddenly two days ago.

Mr Beattie is standing in the Upper Bann constituency and had requested privacy following the sudden death of his baby grandson.

However last night Mr Beattie took to social media and thanked everyone for their messages of support.

The Portadown man said: “I have waited until after the polling stations closed to take this opportunity to thank all those who have sent their condolences.

“Our lovely grandson Cameron was a beautiful young lad and although only 15 months old he had a huge personality.

“His smile lit the room and lit our lives and the news of his passing has devastated the whole family.

“I have received messages of support from all quarters - friends, family, colleagues and political opponents. I can but thank you all for taking the time to think of us at this terrible time.

“I have passed on all your messages to my daughter Leigh and her husband Mark who continue to struggle with their loss.

“Although the funeral will be a private family service with some close friends - if you feel you would like to send a floral tribute then please send directly to Ian Milne’s Funeral services at Seagoe Cemetery.

“Anyone wanting to make a donation please make it out to The Children’s Heartbeat Trust, in the name of Cameron Tindale, directly to the charity or via Ian Milne.

“I hope you can all understand my decision to remain with my family throughout this process.”
