Lisburn business marks birthday with wheelchair challenge

Lisburn-based company John Preston Healthcare Group is celebrating its 170th year in business with an innovative challenge '“ to clock up 170 miles on a wheelchair treadmill and raise £1,700 for Disability Sport NI.

The company, a leading healthcare, medical and homecare supplier, have been trading as a family business since 1846.

Based at Blaris Industrial Estate on Altona Road, the Group includes business operations in Scotland and supplies equipment throughout Europe and globally via its e-commerce website and other platforms such as eBay and Amazon.

Group Managing Director Nick Cooke is delighted to celebrate the major milestone while taking the chance to raise funds and awareness for Disability Sport NI.

“Our Invictus wheelchair treadmill has been set up in our mobility showroom in Lisburn and our staff are all taking turns to reach the 170 mile mark. Thankfully we have also been fortunate to have been joined by first citizen Mayor Brian Bloomfield MBE and Mayoress Rosalind Bloomfield and others such as stars from Ulster Rugby and the team at Disability Sport NI.

“We are committed to providing the right equipment for those with disabilities and limited mobility and we have looked after customers since 1846. Challenges like this help us give something back and also keep our staff fit and healthy.”

Mr Cooke added: “We would love help from anyone who can visit our showroom and push for a mile and help us reach our sponsorship target.”

The birthday celebrations culminate on November 25 with the re-launch of the firm’s mobility showroom which displays the latest mobility solutions including wheelchairs, power packs, specialist seating and mobility scooters.
