Cemetery rules need to be upheld by council

ON a recent visit to Lisburn Cemetery Blaris Extension I noticed a recently erected memorial headstone and surround.

Minister out of touch

ROADS Minister Danny Kennedy should resign from his post as he is completely out of touch.

‘Don’t move statue’

IN last week’s Star there was an article on the regeneration of Lisburn. It is not surprising that with the exception of a few family owned shops in Lisburn centre and in the Longstone area, many shops have closed down due to the financial state of the country.

State of confusion

IT would seem the birds flowers and bees are not the only ones mixed up by the recent bad weather as a certain business in Lisburn is selling Christmas cards in May. Surely I am dreaming - but No! I’ve just pinched myself. I’m looking forward to a nice Easter egg in August yum yum!

It is time to get real

HAVING read the excellent coverage of letters in the Star, I am compelled to reply to three letters in particular.

Why single this out?

I find it disturbing to read that a DRD official instructed the removal of posters advertising a gospel mission with the threat of a £50 fine on every poster placed on lampposts if they are not removed asap.

Move to the Maze would be a mistake

I have been a member of the RUAS since I was a student studying at Loughry Agricultural College many years ago.

How could dog owner let this happen?

I HOPE the person who allowed their dog to foul on the grassy area at the rear of Hillsborough fort is reading this.

Warm praise for LVH

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at the eye clinic at Lagan Valley Hospital for all the help which I received as an out patient on Friday April 27.

Wardens put me off

HAVING been to the bank, I recently returned to my car a couple of minutes past 4pm to find a ticket had been just been issued.

Chance to move

I participate in ‘Art on the Rails’ in Castle Street on Saturdays between April and September. This event is a great idea in principle and is in a lovely location.

One way to ease stress

LISBURN has two large car parks, one opposite the Health centre and the other at Chapel Hill.

Working together we can clean up our city

I write in support of the writers of two letters that appeared in last week’s Ulster Star re Dog Fouling.

Sprucing up city centre is not the answer

IN reply to your invitation to comment on the plan to rejuvenate Lisburn City centre, I would like to say that those who govern us have no comprehension of what is the cause of the decline of Lisburn’s shops. If allowed to continue in 10 or 20 years time it will result in streets of derelict boarded up shops similar to what has happened to towns in America.

We need you to keep local shops alive

I AM urging everyone who shops, and lets face it we all do, to support your independent retailers.

Delighted that Asda may come to Lisburn

I AM so delighted to read that Asda are finally coming to Lisburn, it is long overdue in my opinion.

It is about time Lisburn caught up with the rest of Northern Ireland

ASDA coming to Lisburn - brilliant about time this so called city caught up with the rest of NI, with a petrol station that should drive down prices in Lisburn a bit of competition.

Leave Lisburn city centre alone

I WOULD like to comment on the plans for Lisburn city centre.

Show some decency and clean up after your dog

NOT cleaning up after your dog is just disgusting and shows a total lack of human decency.

We’re lucky to have the Lagan Valley

HOW lucky we, the people of Lisburn, are to have the Lagan Valley Hospital.

Supporters thanked

A GROUP of generous Hillsborough people recently decided to step out to raise money for our charity, Friends of The Cancer Centre, motivated by the loss of one of their good friends.

Won’t run gauntlet if Asda in city centre

IF Asda locates to Lisburn in an ‘out of the City Centre’ setting I will be one of their loyal customers.

No end to Stormont extravagance

WITH reference to Conservative Representative Neil McNickle’s letter on April 20, there are several points that could be made, but there are many bombs not only ticking, but exploding on a daily basis and show no signs of abating.

Stop anti social behaviour at the start

I was horrified last week after reading about the thugs throwing a brick at a train in Lambeg,

No answer to Olympic question

AS the originating author of a letter about the Olympic Torch which appeared in the Star a few weeks ago and which seems to have stirred so much controversy I would like to reply to a letter from Councillor Jennifer Coulter.
