The funeral has taken place of a Belfast grammar school teacher who was discovered dead at her family home last week.

Mrs Lynda O’Kane, who was a form tutor and history teacher at Methodist College, is understood to have lived in the Crumlin area.

Mrs O’Kane was in her early 50s.

She had been feeling unwell and her husband John was getting ready to take her to hospital when she collapsed. He rang 999 and an ambulance responded immediately. Paramedics worked on Mrs O’Kane but sadly she passed away before reaching hospital.

She was mother to three daughters, Catherine, Claire and Cara.

Her funeral service took place yesterday at the Chapel of Unity at Methodist College.

One tribute on Facebook described Mrs O’Kane as “always as helpful as she could have been” and that “she will be missed”.

Another praised her “enthusiasm and inspiring teaching”.
