A major £300,000 watermains improvement programme for Hillsborough will get underway in late June.

This investment is part of an overall £2,544,000 investment.

It takes in a alrge area including the wider Lisburn, Dromore, Banbridge and Newry areas.

The extent of the work is along Lisburn Road and Lisburn Street between the roundabout at the A1 dual carriageway and Ballynahinch Street.

The first phase of work will get underway at the Carnreagh Road junction, moving along the Lisburn Road in sections towards the Ballynahinch Street junction.

The overall programme of work will be completed at the end of August 2015.

The upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the local area.

Traffic management and signage will be in place in all areas as necessary to inform the public in advance of the work.

Where possible, NI Water will use state-of-the-art ‘no dig’ technology, which reduces the need for large open trenches in the road.

Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians.

NI Water will work closely with Transport NI, local traders and residents to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum during this essential work.

They will also co-operate with Translink to ensure that public transport serving the village functions with minimum disruption.

The public are advised to stay away from the working areas for their own safety and NI Water are appealing for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites.

NI Water and their contractor, Lagan Construction Group, will complete letter drops to those properties close to the working area, and would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed.

NI Water would like to assure customers that they will do everything they can to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.
