Well done Winnie! Lagan Valley midwife goes the extra mile

Midwife Winnie Chambers from Lagan Valley Midwifery Led Unit won the top prize for '˜Going The Extra Mile' at the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust Chairman's Recognition Awards.

She received her award from SEHSCT Chairman Colm McKenna.

“Winnie has been a midwife for over 31 years and has fully embraced her role as Team Midwife at Lagan Valley,” a spokesperson for the Trust said.

“She has developed a personal way of teaching which has enabled many mothers to achieve a calm, natural birth while encouraging fathers to be actively involved.

“She has also tirelessly promoted the unit, organising Open Evenings, manning stands in supermarkets and taking part in the Lord Mayor’s Parade.”

Winnie has also raised a family of four, and recently was delighted to be present at the birth of her grandson in Lagan Valley Hospital.
