Upper Bann MLA Jo-Anne Dobson and her son Mark became the inspiration for other members of the Ulster Unionist Party to become registered organ donors.

UUP Councillor Robbie Butler, who will be seeking to represent Lagan Valley in the upcoming Stormont elections, is encouraging everyone to register as a organ donor in 2016.

Mr Butler revealed that both he and the UUP initially became involved in the campaign when party member and Upper Bann UUP MLA Jo-Anne Dobson’s son Mark underwent surgery.

“Her son Mark developed renal failure a number of years ago,” explained Mr Butler. “He has been one of the fortunate ones and had a life-saving kidney transplant. Mark is one of the lucky ones and we should all endeavour to do what we can to help others get a second chance at life as he has done. You need only to meet Mark to witness the positive effects this initiative can have on a family.

“I encourage you and your family to make it a New Year resolution to sign up and register.”
