A Lisburn doctor has won a major award within the health industry in the United Kingdom.

Dr Kevin Dyer, from Lisburn, Consultant Clinical Psychologist with the Northern Health and Social Trust, won the May Davidson Award for making the most significant contribution to the profession within the first 10 years of his career.

Kevin provides services to those attending the Trust’s Psychological Therapy Service which offers assessment and intervention for individuals with a variety of mental health needs, including depression, anxiety, psychosis and complex posttraumatic stress disorder.

The May Davidson Award is a UK-wide award conferred by the British Psychological Society and previous winners are renowned within clinical psychology circles.

Dr Petra Corr, Head of Psychological Services said, “This award is held in high esteem within the profession. This is a fantastic achievement for Kevin who is a well deserved winner of the award.

“There is always a high level of competition for this award - however competition was even steeper this year as this is the 50th year of the profession.

“Kevin has shown outstanding leadership in his role as Lead Clinician in the Psychological Therapy Service.

“I have no doubt he will follow in the footsteps of others who have won this award and will continue to lead the way in the services he and his team deliver within the Northern Trust.”

As the winner of the award, Kevin was invited to deliver the May Davidson Lecture at the Annual Conference of the Division of Clinical Psychology and it is planned that he will deliver the same lecture within the Northern Trust early in the new year.
