A busy June for Little Crickets

June has been an exceptionally busy month in Little Cricketts Day Nursery and Afterschool, Glenavy.

At the beginning of the month our 2-4 year olds participated in the Barnardos Big Toddle. Our young Pirates had a great time and enjoyed an outdoor picnic after their walk while raising an amazing £220 for the Barnardos charity.

This was followed by the annual show on Friday June 15.

This year the Summer Showcase in St Clare’s Community Hall included performances from The Explorers, Afterschool and Irish Traditional musicians. The Explorers gave a wonderful performance of some of their favourite songs. They sang ‘Let it Go’ from Disney’s Frozen, as well as a rendition of ‘I’ll Tell Me Ma’. Some children dressed up as their favourite Frozen characters especially for their performance.

Having performed The Gruffalo and The Sneetches at shows in previous years, Afterschool chose to do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this year. The children all worked hard at learning lines, songs and dances as well as creating scenery to transform the stage into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

Music on the night came in the form of Tinwhistle and flute solos from traditional musicians Anya and Eimear as well as a group performance (Niamh, Callum and Eimear) which got toes tapping.

The show was a great success and a really enjoyable evening. All of the children did so well and are superstars in the making.

A special thanks to everyone involved in the preparations for the show and on the night. All proceeds from the show will be donated to St. Clare’s Hall.

The following week our Preschool Graduation took place. The children showed off the skills they had learned during the year to their proud parents. They each received a graduation certificate, a school stationary starter pack and a special graduation teddy bear.
