New President Sheelagh McRandal of Drumbeg WI introduced committee members at their September meeting and welcomed Irene McAvoy, who was visiting.

Sheelagh paid tribute to past President Rosalind Bloomfield under whose leadership, she said, Drumbeg Institute had achieved recognition as ‘Institute of the Year.’ She also expressed good wishes to Rosalind in her new role as Mayoress of Lisburn and Castlereagh.

Sheelagh then introduced five ladies from Northern Ireland Women in Fisheries - Lou, Betty, Elaine, Marlene and Lily - who each spoke of their personal experiences as wives, mothers and daughters of fishermen and the importance of eating fish.

They have visited the Parliament at Strasbourg and gained recognition for the work and support they have given the families of fishermen. The quiz was won by Margaret Hegarty and Ann Simpson.

Fifteen members submitted 75 entries to Drumbeg Village Show.
