Anti-social yobs steal bins from children's home

A Lisburn councillor has hit out at anti-social youths who stole bins from a children's home in Dunmurry.

Alliance Alderman Stephen Martin has condemned the theft from Lindsay House in Seymour Hill.

The theft is thought to have taken place during a disturbance involving a number of young people on Tuesday night (February 14).

Challenging those involved in the anti-social behaviour at Kingsway, Laurel Way and Rowan Drive to think before they act, Alderman Martin said: “With half term upon us it was disappointing that some young people took it upon themselves to damage property and cause disturbance to elderly residents living at the front of Seymour Hill on Tuesday evening, even interfering with property at a local children’s home. What you might think is harmless can actually be damaging to the local community.”

He added: “I am glad that PSNI are increasing their activity in the area as a response but they shouldn’t have to. It is diverting precious police resources away from other priorities all because of the thoughtless actions of a minority.”

Police have confirmed that a number of bins were stolen from the children’s home on Laurel Way.

They have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference 200 of 15/2/17 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
