Creativity month launched in Colin

Award winning community group, Colin Neighbourhood Partnership, launched a programme of events to tie in with Creativity Month NI which takes place during the month of March.

The ‘Creativity Month in Colin’ programme is filled with events designed to spark and inspire interest in a wide variety of creative activities. Art, music, theatre, dance, literature, history, photography and technology are all featured and all age groups are catered for.

Highlights include a Creativity Day on Friday March 14 which will see the Ulster Orchestra perform in the Dairy Farm Shopping Centre, on the outskirts of Poleglass. Over 40 Ulster Orchestra musicians will play their instruments to unsuspecting shoppers and, as well as musical performances conducted by newly appointed Chief Conductor Rafael Payare, the orchestra will also play along to a special reading of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ narrated by UTV’s Paul Clarke. The unique event will also feature African drum performances, arts and crafts workshops and will take place from 2-5pm.

Other events in the programme include a Music Trip to the Ulster Hall on Friday March 7 and an Historical Trip with renowned historian Eamon Phoenix on a tour of Presbyterian and United Irish history on Friday March 28, leaving Cloona House at 9.45am.

A key event in the programme is a powerful new drama, ‘I Never See the Prettiest Thing’, which is an 
engaging and lively exploration of the challenging 
issues that surround mental health.

Supported by the Arts Council and the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure, ‘I Never See the Prettiest Thing’ is a unique drama production featuring professional actors and original songs and music. The performance runs from March 25-29 in the Brook Activity Centre in Twinbrook with the performance starting at 7.30pm each evening.
