It was first time lucky for Moorfields Flowers business based on the Newry Road, Rathfriland.

As this year’s winner of the Excellence in Agriculture at the recent Business Awards - it was the first time proprietors Lesley and Barclay had ever entered their much loved business for
anything.

Lesley a keen gardener, a hobby that has been passed down to her by her great aunt and mother, set up the flower-growing business in 2007 on the family farm along with her husband.

The flowers are naturally grown without any artificial heat, giving a high quality flower you can only expect from a locally grown
bloom.

Flowers are ready for harvesting from early June until late October and when ready they are hand picked and conditioned ensuring they are delivered to you at the peak of freshness.

Their south facing ‘Back Field’ and the ever-changing backdrop of the Mourne Mountains provides the most stunning setting to grow their range of luxury flowers such as Oriental lily bulbs, sweet pea, cornflower and herbs.

“It means a lot to be honoured in this way,” said an excited Lesley.

“It makes you feel that all the hard work is worthwhile.

“We try our best to grow the best quality flowers so it is nice to get this award and great to be recognised.

“We are always ready to listen and keen to adapt to all the needs of our
many and valuable customers.”
