Roundabout work to begin

The £150,000 facelift at Moira Roundabout will take place ahead of the Balmoral Show and will be completed in early May according to the Department of Regional Development.

Resurfacing will take place over eight evenings and a ‘traffic management programme’ will be developed to keep disruption to a minimum.

Transport Minister Michelle McIlveen described it as “significant investment (which) will directly benefit the community in the Moira and surrounding areas and will also be welcome news to commuters who use the roundabout on a daily basis.”

She said: “Work is scheduled at night to have minimal impact on traffic and will be completed ahead of the Balmoral Show in May.”

Alderman Jim Dillon said the work was long overdue.

“I am delighted that this work will begin at long last,” he said. “This is one of the busiest roundabouts in Northern Ireland. I have received many complaints about the pot holes and the general state of the roundabout. This work should have been done a few years ago.”

The scheme is set to be completed by May 6. Work will be suspended over from April 30 – May 2.

He also welcomed resurfacing work which is due to take place soon on the A1 carriageway from Hillsborough to Sprucefield.
